You know, I was in the middle of shooting 'Hateful Eight' and I got a call that said Tim Burton wants you for his movie. What? Awesome, because after this I'm going to need something light and airy and fun. So that was it. I read the script, read the book and was really caught by it. And then they sent me a rendering of what he wanted me to look like, and I was like, ok, this is good, this is very good." JACKSON SPEAKING TO REPORTER WIDE OF RED CARPET DIRECTOR TIM BURTON POSING FOR PICTURES (SOUNDBITE) (English) TIM BURTON, DIRECTOR, SAYING: "It just seemed perfectly normal to me, that's why I loved it. It's just all the themes that, you know, feeling peculiar, those weird feelings as a teenager, weird family things and fantasy and reality mixed together. You know, those are all things that I loved in Ransom's (Riggs) book. I thought he did - you know, that's why, it just spoke to me." VARIOUS OF ACTOR ASA BUTTERFIELD (SOUNDBITE) (English) ASA BUTTERFIELD, ACTOR, SAYING: "I mean the whole experience is kind of unforgettable, I mean, I know that's kind of cheesy. But seriously, it's such a privilege to be able to work with these guys and to see the way they kind of hold themselves and compose themselves. I've been acting for a while but not nearly as long as some of these guys, so I'm still learning stuff and everyday is just a treat." VARIOUS OF ACTRESS EVA GREEN (SOUNDBITE) (English) EVA GREEN, ACTRESS, SAYING: "I think I would do anything for Tim. His projects are always very, very interesting and always been bonkers. And you know you're not going to play a girlfriend, here I'm playing weird Mary Poppins that transforms into a bird. So it's not every day that we do things like that." VARIOUS OF ACTRESS ELLA PURNELL (SOUNDBITE) (English) ELLE PURNELL, ACTRESS, SAYING: "I mean, take your pick, I can do like lots of weird things, like move my body. I can do like weird things with my eyes. Did that freak you out, sorry? I can like raise my eyebrows, a bit more PG. I can like click things, I can do tons of weird things. But that's what makes you normal, exactly. Everybody's peculiar in their own way, right?" WIDE OF RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) LAUREN MCCROSTIE, ACTRESS, SAYING: "I'm so, so excited for everybody to see it. It's an amazing piece, it explores so many different themes. It's funny, there is a journey in it, there is love, there's horror and a bit of fear as well. And there are so many different personalities so anybody can relate to the story, really." CAST POSING FOR GROUP PHOTO AUTHOR RANSOM RIGGS SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) RANSOM RIGGS, AUTHOR, SAYING: "No idea, and I dared not hope it would because it seemed like terrible luck. So I just said, 'I'm happy with it being a book.' And then when I heard that Tim was making it, I - it took me about three years to come to terms with the fact that that wasn't just a day dream. And that's kind of when I walked on set for the first time when I realized, oh, this is real." ACTOR FINLAY MACMILLIAN POSING FOR PICTURES ACTRESS CAROL KANE WALKING DOWN RED CARPET ACTRESS EVE PLUMB

- Story Text: Quirky and individualistic director Tim Burton finds his normal in the new film, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."
The filmmaker reunited with his cast at the New York screening of the movie on Monday (September 26) before heading into the after party inside Saks Fifth Avenue department store.
The film is based on author Ransom Riggs' book of the same name and tells the story of a young boy who learns about himself through the peculiar children at a home where it's normal to be strange and different.
For Burton, the book seemed perfectly normal to him.
"It's just all the themes that, you know, feeling peculiar, those weird feelings as a teenager, weird family things and fantasy and reality mixed together. You know, those are all things that I loved in Ransom's (Riggs) book. I thought he did - you know, that's why, it just spoke to me."
Samuel L. Jackson plays the villain and said the project came at the right time.
"I was in the middle of shooting 'Hateful Eight' and I got a call that said Tim Burton wants you for his movie. What? Awesome, because after this I'm going to need something light and airy and fun. So that was it. I read the script, read the book and was really caught by it," he said.
"Then they sent me a rendering of what he wanted me to look like, and I was like, ok, this is good, this is very good," said Jackson whose character wears white contact lenses and has wiry white hair.
Actress Laura McCrostie said she is excited for everyone to see the film.
"It's an amazing piece, it explores so many different themes. It's funny, there is a journey in it, there is love, there's horror and a bit of fear as well. And there are so many different personalities so anybody can relate to the story, really."
