- Summary: MOENCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY (SEPTEMBER 28, 2016) (REUTERS) BARCELONA COACH LUIS ENRIQUE ARRIVING FOR NEWS CONFERENCE NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) BARCELONA COACH, LUIS ENRIQUE, SAYING ACCORDING TO SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION: "We are very pleased with the team's performance this evening, above all because we were playing against a team that had had 18 victories at home, 11 of them back-to-back. They are a team that put on a lot of pressure and spread themselves effectively across the pitch. We had three or four good chances in the first half but then our level dropped and we conceded a goal. In the second half, we definitely had more possession of the ball. We had fewer goal chances than in the first half but we pursued a clear strategy: we were waiting for a corner from the right. It didn't come for a while but when it did then we were able to score. It's a well-deserved victory for our team." PEOPLE LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) BARCELONA COACH, LUIS ENRIQUE, SAYING ACCORDING TO SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION: "For me it's proof that to achieve our goals we need all our players, not just the regulars but also those who come into the game from the bench. It doesn't matter if a player was in the starting 11 or came from the bench, what is important is the attitude - of the starters as well as the subs. We do not place any limits on our players and as long as they don't place any limits on themselves either we will achieve our goals. We are very happy with the team's performance here tonight." ENRIQUE LEAVING MOENCHENGLADBACH COACH ANDRE SCHUBERT ARRIVING FOR NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (German) MOENCHENGLADBACH COACH, ANDRE SCHUBERT, SAYING: "I think we played a very good match. Before the match we set out to keep up with our opponents, but also to create chances, play to the front and keep possession of the ball. We did that well. Of course it is disappointing to then lose after all that but that doesn't invalidate how well we played. We are disappointed with the result but pleased with the performance." - Story Text: Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said on Wednesday (September 28) that his team's Champions League victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach was well-deserved.
"We pursued a clear strategy: we were waiting for a corner from the right. It didn't come for a while but when it did then we were able to score. It's a well-deserved victory for our team," Enrique told reporters.
Barca battled back from a goal down and scored twice in the second half to overcome hosts Gladbach 2-1 in the Group C match despite the absence of the injured Lionel Messi.
Second-half goals from substitute Arda Turan and Gerard Pique gave the Spaniards their second win in two group matches to top the standings, after their opening 7-0 demolition of Celtic.
"It's proof that to achieve our goals we need all our players, not just the regulars but also those who come into the game from the bench. It doesn't matter if a player was in the starting 11 or came from the bench, what is important is the attitude," Enrique said.
The hard-working Germans had taken a surprising lead, scoring against the run of play, with Thorgan Hazard slotting in to complete a quick break in the 34th minute.
But the injury of Raffael in the 48th minute and his substitution took out most of their pace.
Nevertheless, Gladbach coach Andre Schubert said he was pleased with his team's performance.
"Before the match we set out to keep up with our opponents, but also to create chances, play to the front and keep possession of the ball. We did that well. Of course it is disappointing to then lose after all that but that doesn't invalidate how well we played," Schubert said.
Barcelona, who had Argentine Messi missing with a groin injury, are now on six points after their second group win.
The hosts, who managed just one shot on target, have zero, after their second loss in the group ended an 11-match winning streak at home in all competitions. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
