- Story Text: Today, most Christians celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus, but in Mexico children still wake up on the Feast of the Epiphany to find out what the three kings brought them.
Thousands of Mexican children gathered in the capital's main square on Monday (January 6) to meet the three kings and receive presents in a massive give-away organized for poor children.
Children often request electronic toys and remote control cars, but their parents, who packed the shopping districts, bought a variety of toys.
One volunteer at the gift distribution said the children are happy to receive any gift.
"The smile is very important," he said. "They (the children) are very nervous and there are great toys - the dolls, the tea sets. The most important thing is to make them happy at least once a year."
Children across Latin America traditionally receive gifts on January 6, the Three Kings Day, recognised as the day the magi brought the Christ child gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
