- Story Text: Israeli art school depicts catwalk models as fashion victims with mock fashion show.
Wearing grotesque costumes of old fat ladies and mock drag queens, Israeli students took the old-fashioned catwalk to protest against the use of women and young girls as "fashion victims".
The mock fashion show, created by Custom Designer Rakefet Levy and her students, presented a theatrical view of fashion world that articulates the painful price women pay by being "fashion slaves", rather than the familiar glamorous side.
Levy, who also designs costumes for the Israeli opera and theatre, challenged her students to evaluate the tension between fashion "order" and the difficulty many women are facing when they try to follow it. Levy believes that people are naturally beautiful, and rejects "products"
of fashion industry such as surgeries and "disproportion lost of weight".
"It's a victim show, and it's the victims of the fashion industry actually, and everything that concerns (the fashion industry), plastic surgeries, piercing, illnesses that you get amongst the young generation, anorexia. And we wanted to say that we are beautiful the way we are, actually it is a contradiction to what has been going on here" Levy told Reuters television.
The show launched the annual Israeli "Designer market"
which present the latest highly-regarded fashion designs in lower prices. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
