The 25-year-old serving soldier was murdered on a busy London street in Woolwich, south-east London last week.
During the inquest at Southwark Coroner's Court, detective chief inspector Grant Mallon, who is leading the investigation, said the attack had caused 'extensive and serious injuries.' Rigby was attacked in broad daylight and died at the scene.
A post-mortem gave the cause of death as 'multiple incised wounds'.
On Thursday (May 30), one of the suspects, 22-year old Michael Adebowale, appeared in court charged with the killing of the British soldier. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
