- Story Text: The United States' women's World Cup squad arrived in Frankfurt, Germany on Thursday (July 14) to prepare themselves for the final against Japan on Sunday (July 17).
The tournament favourites and winners of the title in 1991 and 1999 came through a tough semi-final against France 3-1 on Wednesday (July 13). On a rainy afternoon, the Americans, who have never finished below third place in a women's World Cup, scored two late goals to defeat the French and will now face Japan who are seeking their first World Cup title after they defeated Sweden 3-1 in the second semi-final.
The Americans arrived in Frankfurt full of confidence, with goalkeeper Hope Soto saying:
