Russian President Vladimir Putin met Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan in Moscow on Tuesday (March 12) for the first time after Sarksyan was re-elected on February 18.
During the news conference Putin congratulated Sarksyan on his re-election, saying that a result of more than 60 percent proved that the Armenian people trust him.
"I would like to congratulate you once again with your convincing victory. Sixty percent, even more than sixty percent, is a very good result that speaks for people's trust and allows you to implement all the plans you set for yourself when you started the election campaign," Putin said.
Sarksyan reminded that his visit to Russia was his first trip abroad, adding that Russia is a big ally and a strategic partner of Armenia.
"It is only natural that my first visit abroad is a visit to Moscow. Russia is our strategic partner, our ally, and I think that basically says it," Sarksyan said.
Sarksyan also invited Putin to visit Armenia.
