- Title: 'Sacred Deer' reunites Colin Farrell with 'messed up' 'Lobster' director
- Date: 25th May 2017
- Summary: CANNES, FRANCE (MAY 25, 2017) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR COLIN FARRELL SAYING: "I never met her until before this film, and then two months later I'm giving her a hug on the set of 'Sacred Deer' and saying to her "I'll see you in two weeks in New Orleans." We shot this in Cinncinati and two weeks on, to New Orleans to work with Sofia (Coppola). Nicole's a dream to work with. She's deadly, she's such a brilliant actress, but she has a wicked sense of humour." (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR YORGOS LANTHIMOS SAYING: "Not really knowing exactly how to feel towards it, if it's funny to you a certain situation, or ridiculous or horrific, or tragic, I try to include all of those things in a film and hopefully overlap them, so you're not necessarily certain of how to feel towards something, so that's my ideal situation, of creating something that's funny and horrific and tragic and violent and all at the same time, going from one to the other, and that's what I'm hoping to do with most of my films."

- Story Text: Ask Colin Farrell to react to director Yorgos Lanthimos's insistence that the movie they have brought to the Cannes Film Festival is a comedy, and he laughs uproariously.
"He's messed up," Farrell told Reuters of Lanthimos who wrote and directed "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", a movie that delves into horror movie territory even more deeply than the nightmarish "The Lobster" in which Farrell also starred, as a man destined to become a crustacean.
Almost impossible to describe without giving away spoilers, "Sacred Deer" sees Farrell as a heart surgeon who, at the start of the film, has a mysterious relationship with a teenage boy. As his family life falls apart, he is forced to make an impossible choice, the "sacrifice" of the title.
One of two Farrell movies competing for this year's Palme d'Or, "Sacred Deer" has impressed critics.
Lanthimos said that, as in "The Lobster", he was aiming for comedy and horror.
Farrell, who play a character almost numbed by a traumatic event in his past, said: "There are some funny things in it, some situational kind of leanings that are funny in their awkwardness, I'm sure." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
