And, theatre or movie operators have been asked to quickly monitor the exit perimeter when a show is expected to end to see if a suspect situation could arise." I took the initiative of opening up my bag, because I now do so instinctively, but the person who is supposed to check what is at least in my bag didn't look inside at all. So, I don't really know how they check but personally, I don't think the measures put in place are at the appropriate level." - Story Text: France tightened its security measures around concert halls and cultural sites on Tuesday (May 23) following the Manchester suicide bomb attack which killed 22 people at the end of an Ariana Grande show.
Paris Police Commissioner Michel Delpuech said there would be greater screening in place when people enter and exit sites, and that combat troops who patrol streets and protect key sites will adapt their routes so as to monitor concert halls and movie theatres when shows end.
Parisians interviewed by Reuters TV were however sceptical that increased security measures would help prevent further attacks.
More than 230 people have died in France in the past two years at the hands of attackers allied to the militant group Islamic State, whose strongholds in Syria and Iraq are being bombed by an international coalition including France. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
