- Story Text: Russian and Chinese foreign ministers discussed measures that would counter North Korea's nuclear programme but at the same time won't hamper a political settlement in the region.
At the talks in Moscow on Friday (May 26) Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi agreed that the use of force on the Korean peninsula would only worsen the situation
Chinese foreign minister expressed hope that talks with Pyongyang could be resumed and that South Korea and its new government would "be able to maintain its political course and will also make an effort to resume the talks with North Korea".
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged to find political solution to the latest political crisis surrounding North Korea' nuclear programme.
"We think it is very important to take urgent steps to prevent further escalation of confrontation around the Korean peninsula. All (U.N.) Security Council resolutions must be fulfilled", Lavrov said.
