- Story Text: Hundreds of Palestinians held evening prayers outside al-Aqsa mosque on Wednesday (July 19) refusing to pass through newly-installed Israeli security measures.
Israel reopened the holy site on Sunday (July 16), drawing protest from Muslim religious authorities over the installation of metal detectors at entrances after closing the mosque for two days after a deadly shooting.
On Tuesday (July 18) several Palestinians were injured, at least one seriously, according to Palestinian medical officials after they clashed with Israeli police near the mosque.
In the West Bank city of Bethlehem, dozens marched in protest against the security measures around the mosque. Palestinians threw stones on the Israeli soldiers who responded by firing tear gas to disperse them. Three people were arrested according to an IDF statement. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
