We are pursuing that legally and we will pursue that legally to make sure that justice is served and the law is complied with." There are penalties and legal rights and we cannot put this into a deal and say 'this in exchange for that'. Jordanian foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday (July 25) called a shooting incident at the Israeli embassy in Amman a criminal case and said that his government would ensure that justice is served.
A security guard at Israel's embassy in Jordan shot dead Mohammad Jawawdah who stabbed him with a screwdriver in an incident on Sunday (July 23) night, in which a Jordanian bystander was also killed.
The staff of Israel's embassy in Jordan, including the security guard involved in the shooting incident, returned to Israel from Amman on Monday (July 24). Jordan had wanted to question the guard, who was slightly hurt, but Israel said he had diplomatic immunity.
Israeli-Jordanian tensions have escalated since Israel installed metal detectors at entry points to al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem after two police guards were shot dead by gunmen there on July 14. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
