- Story Text: Although Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek play husband and wife in upcoming action-comedy film 'The Hitman's Bodyguard', their characters barely meet.
The reason? Both characters - Darius and Sonia Kincaid - start the movie in jail.
Jackson's Darius is a dangerous and prolific assassin, who must give evidence in the Hague against a merciless Eastern European dictator (played by Gary Oldman) to ensure his reign of terror comes to an end.
Hayek's Sonia is Darius' equally notorious wife, who he hopes to spring from prison as part of a plea bargain.
'The Hitman's Bodyguard' also stars Ryan Reynolds who portrays Michael Bryce, a down-on-his-luck bodyguard, who is roped in to protect his mortal enemy Darius, as they race against time to get to the Hague.
Both Jackson and Hayek take part in some high-action fight scenes and whereas Jackson uses a stunt man, Hayek told Reuters she took great pleasure in doing her own moves, despite regretting it the next day.
"I think I pulled a couple of muscles. The next morning, you know, I'm moving like this, nothing can move." She said, "I'm like telling them (my bones) to do things and they're not doing it to my muscles, but it's okay. It's there for eternity on that film."
Jackson is no stranger to action though, not least thanks to his work in Quentin Tarantino's films such as 'The Hateful Eight' and 'Pulp Fiction'.
He told Reuters he wants to make movies to help people escape from the daily grind.
"I think movies should be entertaining." He said, "I'm from that generation that went to the movies to escape on the weekends and, I think, movies should have a huge amount of escapism and fun, so that when you leave you've forgotten about your mundane life for at least an hour and a half to two hours and you had a great time and you enjoyed it and you could think about something that you saw and it still brings a smile to your face. I want to be in those kind of movies and that's what I enjoy doing."
Jackson and Hayek both say they would like a sequel to 'The Hitman's Bodyguard', but that they'd like to act together more in it.
Discussing potential plots, they agreed that they would like to see Sonia rescue Darius, with Hayek saying, "I'd like to rescue a man, for a change."
