Residents and tourists in Nice were in shock on Friday (August 18) after van attacks killed 14 in Barcelona, Spain.
On Thursday (August 17), a van mowed through crowds of people in Las Ramblas on Barcelona's most famous avenue and a similar attack in Cambrils left a total of 14 people dead.
The attack brought back painful memories to Nice's residents and tourists, serving as a reminder of similar events which occurred in the French Riviera city the previous year.
On July 14 2016, a truck attack on the world-famous 'Promenade des Anglais' killed 86 people on Bastille Day, France's national holiday.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi honoured the Spanish attack victims in a ceremony, and called for increased money and powers to improve security in cities. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
