SCU (SOUNBITE) (English) UN SECRETARY GENERAL KOFI ANNAN: "If one word encapsulates the changes we are living through, it is globalization. We live in a world that is interconnected as never before. SCU (SOUNDBITE)(English) ANNAN: "One problem is that at present these opportunities are far from equally distributed. We cannot without insulting their poverty." 1.12 6. SIDE VIEW ANNAN (MUTE) 1.20 7. SCU (SOUNDBITE)(English) ANNAN: "If I could sum it up in one sentence, I should say we are plundering our children's heritage to pay for our present unsustainable practices. This must stop. We must reduce emission of carbon and other green house gasses to put a stop to global warming." 1.41 8. WIDE OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY AUDIENCE 1.48 9. SCU (SOUNDBITE)(English) ANNAN: "We are at the service of the world's peoples and we must listen to them. They are telling us that the world's past achievements are not enough. SCU (SOUNDBITE) (English) ANNAN: "Saying to nations who would not allow their citizens to take advantage of Internet opportunities, "My message to them is that they are depriving their nation, their people, of great opportunity by trying to limit access to technology. And besides they are going to fail. So they shouldn't really waste resources trying to block it. And they should allow their people and open up their countries to participate in this great new era of technology and information. I know it is frightening for those who want to control everything, but it is simply not going to be possible. And I would urge them to be forward looking for the sake of their people and their nation." 4.28 27. SV ANNAN AT PODIUM 4.33 28. SCU/SLV (SOUNDBITE) (French) ANNAN: "If those people who signed the ceasefire (in Congo) are prepared to implement it, if they really are serious, then it's possible to do this. It's possible to implement this, even without people there to observe it. If those people there were really serious we're prepared to help them deploy troops. But if it is serious what can explain the fact that the war goes on. That's the thing." PULL OUT OF END OF PRESS CONFERENCE (3 SHOTS) 5.14 Initials Script is copyright Reuters Limited.
